The wonderful north Norfolk coast was this week’s wildlife destination, on the back of visiting close family!
A visit to the famous Cley and Titchwell Nature Reserves provided a great range of waders, honkers and quackers, including: avocet, golden plover, marsh harrier, pink-footed and brent geese, wigeon, teal, shelduck, redshank and sandpipers, common scoter and golden eye (at sea), to name but a few.
These were all interesting, but the most fascinating finds were what I found on the pebble beach at Cley: a number of dead harbour seal pups (4) and adults (2); I assume that these have come from Scolt Head Island. I also came across a common (or “harbour”) porpoise on the beach, which was amazing as I’d only ever seen them out at sea; this had to be a young one due to its small size (just over 1m).

Also on the beach at Holkham gap there were millions of razor clam shells, as well as other interesting items such as urchins.
