A visit to Langford Lakes NR in Wiltshire today yielded a great white egret, kingfisher, snipe, tufted duck and gadwall – plus an unidentified wader heard, possibly a sandpiper. The kingfisher was very close to the hide so was scared off by my movement when I popped my head up, unfortunately, so what else is there to do in the middle of winter than to take photos of things that don’t move and have some colour – i.e. a candle-tuft fungus (named for obvious reasons) and a lichen:
